Video Production

My love for video production lies in research, script building and editing, storyboarding, and content ideation. That being said, there’s a lot that goes into communicating in video, but it’s the most rapidly growing marketing medium for a reason! It comes down to strategy, finding unique viewpoints, and creating something that sets your work apart from the rest of the noise. I spared the research, background, scripts, and editing on this page, but I have plenty of samples upon request!

As with any creative pursuit, the process of assembling fragments into a coherent whole is crucial.

The ask: Create a :30 public service announcement the “old-fashioned way.”

The process: There are SO many subjects that would make for a powerful PSA, but I wanted to choose a subject that would be as universally applicable as possible. Distracted driving is something that affects all of us in one way or another. As a mom, of course I encounter distractions often (both in and out of the car)! I will admit I used to look at my phone when it would ‘ding’ as I was driving until a few years ago when I saw a PSA on this very subject. It affected me enough to change my habits, so I wanted to produce something that might do the same for someone else now.

I am especially conscious of others who aren’t paying attention to the road when my own children are in the car, because at that point, they are putting themselves and my family at risk. Is it a pet peeve? Yes. But is it also deadly? YES!

That mindset was the beginning of this project. I took plenty of B-roll (don’t worry, I wasn’t the one driving! Ha!), but wanted the facts themselves to be as big and bold as possible and for the footage to be in the background for the majority of the time. I chose all caps specifically because caps make typography look more intimidating and “loud,” so there was a better chance of the information being memorable.

The answer: an old-fashioned :30 PSA on distracted driving. Does it remind you of an after-school special?

The ask: Create a :30 satirical ad.

The process: The simplest ideas are often the most poignant and memorable! Not all commercials require flashy graphics, a loud sales pitch, or excessive frills. In fact, I believe that simplicity is sometimes the freshest idea in this world of endless technology.

This collection of my daughter’s car selfies was in my phone, and instead of deleting them, I decided to use this project to showcase them. Look at that face! Wouldn’t you?!

Here I produced a slideshow of sorts and transitioned to an all-black screen when I included type, so the viewer’s eye and attention continues to move with the content. I wanted to pull the viewers along until the end, when hopefully they would want to know what this 30 seconds was all about. That’s when I included the (satirized, because it seemed appropriate!) product and logo.

The answer: The Pineapple uPhone Selfie Cam. Completely fictional, yes. But also completely adorable. Bet you wish you had one!

The ask: Present a highlight reel of personal moments.

The process: I wanted to include some video work of course, but I also wanted to include my kids and my PET scans (I think we’d all agree those are some of my best works!) and photos of the house we have recently completely renovated from studs out.

I suppose there is a time and place for focusing on one project. This was not that time in my life- in fact I’m not sure there’s ever been a time like that! I came to the conclusion that if I had chosen to be more strict in my content, I would have missed the many nuances of this piece of my life.

The answer: :42 of me! This highlight reel is both a showcase and keepsake.
